Southern Hemisphere: Long Range Spring 2018 Outlook and Discussion

Staff Recommended Posts

Recent RRWT suggests a stormy feedback for New Zealand in the 21-25 day outlook. The lowest 500MB anomalies centered on Wellington which brings a potential for rain, wind, and cool temperatures around 9/15-19 as astronomical winter comes to a close.

I do enjoy analyzing the recurring features of the Southern Hemisphere. While meteorological spring has just begun in the Southern Hemisphere, looking 46-50 days into the future, the latest RRWT outlook suggests a mid-spring cool spell for southeast Australia via the return of a very recent cold front that harmonizes with a similar pattern from late autumn.

The 06Z GFS 144hr through 240hr supports the potential referenced above for New Zealand in the 9/15-19 time frame.  We shall see!

Quite close with the RRWT signal spatially and temporally.
