UTSwiinii 1,883 Posted August 8, 2018 Quote Models continue show precipitable water right around 2 inches over the entire region as the atmosphere is like a juicy overripe peach. The kind that you know will only take one bite to unleash more water than you thought could fit inside it. As has been the case recently due to the wet conditions, any storms that contain heavy downpours can cause localize flash flooding again this afternoon. Any widespread excessive rainfall threat is in the marginal category for today. SPC has the area in a marginal risk for severe thunderstorms through the daylight hours. CTP using a metaphor I hadn't thought of, but it does appear to be fitting.
so_whats_happening 307 Posted August 8, 2018 I guess everyone is now posting over here? Well today should be interesting, the atmosphere is ready to go. We should quickly will erode the low level CIN across the area and probably start popping towers around or just before noon time. Going with persistence on timing across the area, for the past couple of days we have seen things popping around 1-2pm across many of the normal regions that pop early (near sea/bay breezes, terrain enhancmen, etc.). It looks as though the actual frontal passage should be later in the afternoon evening timeframe so that should be when we start to get the line moving through the 95 corridor. Wind, heavy rain, small hail further north or in some of the strongest of storms today again can never rule out a possible spin-up. Looks like some fat CAPE potential so strong updrafts with not much in the way of shear which could lend to strong downdrafts fairly similar to what folks dealt with yesterday when underneath these storms. 1
