Welcome and Hello To All!

Staff Recommended Posts

Hello to all of the new and old!

It brings great joy to see those from the Accuweather forums to migrate over! It is especially satisfying to see so many Accuwx lurkers create accounts and joy in the discussion!

Don't hesitate to ask questions and contribute in your own special ways! We have fun here and discuss the weather to our hearts, and significant other's disgust, content.

Anyone know how to stop the posts from going into my email?  I responded to two posts & now my email is filled with hundreds of wxdisco emails about others posting.  I read the posts a lot but would prefer to stop them from going to my email.  Thanks!

Ah, I'm familiar. That's pretty neat, brother! Good on you for serving that way.

Hello to the group.

I am an outdoorsman, who did not pay attention to the
weather, until a having heat stroke fishing the Chesapeake
Bay one bright, sunny, hot August day. Another bad weather
day, was nearly freezing to death, hunting ducks on Fishing
Bay off the Chesapeake Bay one November day.

The weatherman predicted 72 degrees on that November day. So
I thought it would be a nice day and dressed with a light
jacket. My two other friends were dressed the same. Around
noontime the wind did a 180 from South to out of the North.
By 1330 ice was forming on the decoys. BY 1600, we couldn't
stand the cold and wind any longer. We packed up the decoys
and headed to the boat on the other side of the marsh.

When we saw the boat, the North wind blew the water from the
cove. We spent an hour dragging the boat across the mud to the
water in Fishing Bay. Finally, heading up the seven mile
stretch of the Transquaking River and breaking ice in front of
the boat with an oar, we reached the launching ramp by 1900.

During the trip home, Jim was telling us about leaving his
down hunting outfit, which would have made it a warmer and more
comfortable hunting trip. Explaining how well the down clothing
functioned in the colder weather.

Three days later, after warming up, I started thumbing through
my sportsmen catalogs. I ordered a down jacket rated at -20 to
+60 degrees. That was in 1968. Today I am still wearing that
jacket. I have been looking for another for decades with no luck.
It is still durable. I can't find quality like that any more.

Another item of interest I found in one of the catalogs was a
Sauger Weathercaster. I found this to be more accurate than the
weatherman/lady. Its accuracy amazed my hunting companions.

I am always curious about the weather and what happens and why
it happened that the forecasters miss.

Hello!  I am Neil from Ocean County on the Jersey Shore and have had the pleasure of following most of you for several years, mostly on the Accuweather forums (a true "lurker"!).  Being a weather enthusiast, most of what I have actually learned about the weather I have learned from you.  I'm afraid I don't have much to bring to the table as far a knowledge of weather dynamics, but I can certainly add observations/data when the is a storm affect in our area.  Thanks for all you do!  And I look forward to a great (and active!) winter season.  Happy Holidays to all!!
