January 22-23 Winter Storm Potential

Staff Recommended Posts

Hi all,

One of the reliable mets that I follow tweeted this, so I thought I'd get the discussion started. This is a quite a ways out in time, but the ensemble support he speaks of has me interested. Those tight isobars also perked up my ears. I'm at work now and don't have time to look at ensembles, but this will be something to follow over the next 2 weeks.

This is showing up on the GFS...Bombs out in a 12 hour span from 997mb to 969mb. Beastly!

The coming pattern for the end of January (& beyond?) looks beautiful!

Had temps for us in single digits/teens as snow moves through.

There is potential but a little too far out.

My eye is also on end of month 28th-30th

I guess this would be the thread to talk about the crazy temps on the FV3. NOPE NOPE NOPE, better not happen.

For future reference, we start threads here based on guidance. NOT "reliable" Twitter accounts that retweet themselves constantly for click bait.

Still in that 8-10 day fringe fantasy range, but here it is on the latest GFS:

I can delete it if it's an issue. No big deal one way or the other.   ...I also detect some history there....

To be fair, this storm must have had major afforementioned signals....because it's been incredibly consistent showing up even out In fantasy range the last few days

No need.  It is shown on models, so you are good to go.  Usually one just opens a thread showing a or several guidance images in which a storm is shown.  Rock on, man!

Whether or not one gets snow or rain, it is quite nice to see such an active pattern with plenty of cold air to get sucked into these systems.

FV3 actually spawns a 2nd beast right on the heels of the one posted above that rides right up the Coastal Plain...geesh. I'll chalk it up to fantasy for now.

No need to delete. My comment would have been made regardless who you used...you just used the one individual/company that I do have history with.
