There's something about the peace of a deep freeze that makes you think of Haiku, doesn't it?

It was -4 at 7:30 this morning.  It is still -4.  My poorly-insulated condo does not respond well to this nonsense; will need to leave the heat at 68 tonight just to maintain.

The good news is that last year, this kind of cold came in on Christmas day and lasted a full two weeks.  We will see relief as early as tomorrow.  Which is good.  Because, as some adults i know are wont to say, this is bullshit.

Made it down to 7 last night.   I'm thinking if there had been snow cover probably our area would have been close to zero.  Both my front doors and front locks on my SUV were frozen shut.  My wife parks her car in the garage but my truck is outside.  Had to enter through the rear door to get in and then out after I arrived at work. Hopefully the sun will thaw it in the parking lot today at work.

I used to be a  boiler tech the problem is that furnace's and boilers are not made to handle temps this cold

there are working overtime right now to just keep up

Our low this morning was -8 degrees, our coldest since the -18 of Feb. 14, 2016 and the coldest January low in almost exactly 5 years (1/22/14). The wind chill was even below -30 at times overnight.

Oh, i now.  I have a decent space heater - the "fireplace" kind - that helps, and does a far better job than my oscillating one.  But i might need to plug the oscillating one in, too; my furnace/heat pump is pretty new - five years? - and it just really, really struggles with this.

My weather haiku for today:

winter cold is here
bullshit to the Nth degree
make that minus N

Near Saratoga Springs NY it's -1    and here at work (just north of Troy NY) it's 0 ⁰  with light wind.  Brutal out there.

Loving the haiku's.

Currently at -1F with a low expected of -9F.  This would tie the lowest temp so far this winter that I have seen on my weather station.

Currently 5 above and maybe going to -5 F tonight according to forecast.  Glad I didn't have to take my usual daily driver out today as the heater (defrost) refused to get things warmed up enough to free up windshield wipers from their iced grip (little engine doesn't put out much heat unless actually driven  .  :)

After being attacked so many times during the summer and fall by those pesky mosquitoes. This is all I have to say.

Yesterday was 8 degrees at home, 2 degree's at work.  When i got out of work at 1830hrs, it was 7 degrees and winds were the strongest i've experienced up here outside of any tropical storm.  Winds were tossing my truck around on the highway.  It's a balmy 8 degree's now with no wind in mahwah where i work.

Is it definitely a water spout?  Could it have been basically a dust devil but instead of dust its steam/water vapor from the sound?
