I think we get to zero or a degree or two above here but at least Mother Nature is consistent back into the 40's and 50's for the next storm. Wonderful.

It's now 0 at Pittsburgh international and should continue to slowly drop the rest of today. Stations north of Pittsburgh in PA are as low as -5 and meanwhile, it's ABOVE freezing in Philly as of 1 PM!

It hurts to be outside. I'm trying to walk my husky puppy who thinks a -23 wind chill is fine and that he should dive into the snow and roll around. Meanwhile, I'm wearing my ski clothes and anything that's exposed stings. I can't imagine what Chicago and Minneapolis are like. It's still above 0 here so we have that going for us (1 degree..1 lousy degree). :classic_ninja:

This is not a ninja but rather the only part of me that is exposed to the wind. Maybe I should break out the ski goggles....

Snow squall associated with the arctic boundary meant business, pretty much whiteout conditions for 15 minutes or so here just northeast of Baltimore.

I happened to notice someone videoing during the squall and turned out to be one of the local news channels for the Baltimore area, WJZ 13.

Was forecast to be about 18 last night in Northern VA (western suburbs) - woke up and PWS said 5 degrees. After a few minutes of driving, my car went down to 2 degrees!
The fropa was crazy today, I'm right next to the airport and was listening to IAD air traffic control - heard a United 737 go-around that reported a gain of 25 knots at 600'!!! Many others reported windshear of -15/+20-25 knots as well.

Considering I was a good 10 degrees below the forecast low last night, and tonight is supposed to be ~6 degrees, I'm thinking I might see my first below-zero temps in my life (at least, that I can remember!)

We had a nice 30F day going until that squall line came through this afternoon. We dropped to half of that in about 1-2 hours. Now sitting at 15F, and a wind chill of 3F. Oof.

Officially -1.

Isn't the sky a ridiculously beautiful blue. Not a single cloud in sight. It's going to be real easy to lose even more heat when the sun goes down.

We're down to -2 in Cranberry but the wind has died off some (down to 18mph) causing the wind chill to only by -25. I can honestly say that I've never seen a -19 DP in a place where I lived.

The all-time low around Pittsburgh is like -22 or -24 so that's safe but -8 to -10 is definitely a real possibility.

Now officially -3.  New record low.  One thing that is so odd to me, is that I don't think in my lifetime I have ever seen the temperature actually drop below 0 in the middle of the afternoon.  This is such an incredible air mass.

The all time record is -22, so yeah, I don't think we'll see that, but I agree the forecast lows are probably too conservative, the lowest I saw was -6.  I'd be surprised if we don't drop to somewhere between -8 and -12.  Also, in my lifetime I don't think I've seen an air temperature lower than -10, so tomorrow could be the day.

Edit: Now -4!

Bayside, Queens, NY already dropped down to 12°F.  With the fresh snow cover and dropping temps, I think NYC has a shot at dipping down to real close to 0°F for a low.

New Jersey has come to join the below 0 party.

My hometown is at 11 right now, and I also think we may go below zero by 6am.

At the Binghamton airport, we have fallen to 6 below, which has already beaten the existing record low of 5 below, which had occurred in both 1952 and 1965. There is a 99 percent chance we will equal or beat tomorrow's record of low of 7 below, which occurred in 1971, when Tony Orlando & Dawn were at No. 1 with "Knock Three Times."

My parents live in Binghamton and I went to school there (undergrad). Even for them this is rough and Binghamton is a classic cold weather city

4 degrees.  We heard all kinds of things that sounded like branches hitting the house, or ice balls.  Loud bangs.

Someone else on my street commented that they were hearing frost quakes.  I asked what they sounded like and sure enough, that’s what we were hearing.   Also is probably what we heard last week during the night that we lost power. We thought it was the ice falling off the trees and hitting the house.

A bit crunchy outside. The steps on our little deck sound like they are about to crack when you walk on them.

I guess that is bound to happen when you are hovering around 5° .
