January 29 - February 3, 2019 | Polar Vortex | Extreme Cold

Staff Recommended Posts

My city(Beacon NY) does not have a airport for temp readings. NWS uses Stewart Airport right across the Hudson River from my locale. Right now we reached a big fat 0. Forecast low is still -3 with the last NWS update. IMBY its 1 degree. HEY! damn close. :winter_smilies_0012:

Current NWS RTMA:

NYC sitting at 2 degrees and White Plains at 0. But probably a bit lower in both locations.

That is super cold Mr. Polar Vortex!

A balmy 3 degrees at 6:30 this morning in Princeton Junction, NJ.  Sussex county in the negative double digits, while spots along the bay in SNJ stayed in the positive double digits!

Bottomed out about -8F overnight IMBY. All the way up to 5F now though but those pesky breezes won't give up, so we're still feeling somewhere around -3F

Thank god those winds we had last night died down. I couldn't imagine this cold with 40 mph gusts. I am actually struggling to keep my house at 68 with this cold.

I have a friend in Central Sweden that likes to tell me how cold it is there. Today was one of the few winter days I've beaten her. My overnight low of 5F vs. her 10F. Hers always sounds worse when she contacts me because she posts in Celsius. Who uses that, anyway?

Well, it´s commonplace for most of the rest of the world to use Celcius and meters. Basically, only a few places including the US uses the Fahrenheit and the non-metric system. Even Canada uses the metric system and Celsius.
