  1. Next Monday the old and decaying reign of regions will end and be left to the historians.

Hey, "historians"! Let me put on my archivist hat!! 😄

  2. Bark much worse than the bite here. Came in thundering and ominous, and went out like a wet nap, barely wetting the pavement. Sun already shining and sauna is on..
  3. I thought so, so wasn't @STEVE392 asking for yesterdays, the 18th or have I lost my mind?
  4. Thought was going to miss to the north so this tail end blowup as it came across the LI Sound was a shock and much needed rain. Went boom right on top of me. tailend.mp4
  5. WOWOWow !! that was a surprise right through the island. Was working and all of a sudden winds started rattling the windows. really whipping around with rain and lightning. Torrential rain right now, gutters are a waterfall. Direct hit as cell was peaking, that was intense. Will post video later today.
  6. Worst week of the Summer overcast and humid every day, no rain just cloudy. Horrible. Hoping some of those storms make it here but highly doubtful as the trend has been to die out as the approach the coast.
  7. Thanks @saratogaWX for stopping in and yes some subject matter, for what ever reason, has become taboo even though it is completely relevant in the discussion of weather.
  8. Apologies the confusion but you have to bear with me, if we are going to get the new site up and running I have to start making global changes that may seem odd but will come together on the new site. No threads have been removed and the OVR region is in the eastern US so their threads are in here with Northeast. Its temporary, just be more vigilant to what thread you are posting in. I added those hideous red tags to daily threads to distinguish for now. This can be done by topic starters for other threads as a temporary identifier. I updated some of the top threads and changed the look of the prefix for easier identification of region, just a temp workaround for the old themes. https://wxdisco.com/topic/1070-wx-disco-2020/?do=findComment&comment=81300

  10. Take it easy the thread is still alive and well. No threads have been removed. Ohio Valley Great lakes is in the Eastern US. If you wnat to use this for the central US then fine. https://wxdisco.com/topic/1214-august-2019-daily-obs-discussion-and-forecasts/
  11. No @NWOhioChaser posted in the wrong thread, will move the posts. Read the updates for more info daily https://wxdisco.com/topic/1070-wx-disco-2020/?do=findComment&comment=81224
  12. Couple of showers in the usual spots, CNJ/SEPA, hope they cross south shore of LI cause we need it.
  13. Did wind up getting some torrential mist last night, pea sized water beads on the leaves this morn told the tale
  14. Potentially habitable 'super-Earth' discovered just 31 light-years away Astronomers announced Wednesday that they had discovered the nearest potentially habitable planet outside our solar system. The newfound exoplanet — a so-called super-Earth named GJ 357 d — lies 31 light-years away from our solar system. It’s about six times more massive than our planet and orbits in its host star’s habitable zone, where water could exist in liquid form on the surface. There’s no evidence at this point that life exists on the exoplanet, only that conditions there could support life as we know it. “It’s a distance from the star that is not too hot and not too cold,” said Lisa Kaltenegger, an associate professor of astronomy and director of the Carl Sagan Institute at Cornell University in Ithaca, New York. The findings, published in the journal Astronomy & Astrophysics, were presented Wednesday at an exoplanet conference in Cambridge, Massachusetts. Kaltenegger, who co-authored a study about the newfound exoplanet, said the discovery was totally unexpected. “It was like a freebie, because it was discovered in the follow-up,” she said of an analysis of observational data obtained from NASA’s planet-hunting TESS satellite and ground-based telescopes. “I was on vacation at the time, and I was completely surprised.” Using TESS, a $337-million spacecraft that was launched in April 2018, the astronomers had detected another planet orbiting the same star, known as GJ 357. When they used ground-based telescopes at the Institute of Astrophysics of the Canary Islands and the University of La Laguna to conduct follow-up research on that planet, known as GJ 357 b, the scientists found two more planets in the system, including GJ 357 d. 15. It wont change because its not the fine men and women that work there but the 100% complete reliability on the computer forecast models which are obviously having issues with whats really happening up/out there. I always heard numbers like the models are 50% accurate, or 75% accurate, even over 85% but in my experience and observation overall they barely crack 5% or 10% accuracy on a daily basis. if you are off 5 of the 7 days of the week and we are talking forecasts within 24 hours so no excuses, lol how the hell do you achieve 80% ???
  16. My cats didn't even bother to put on their boots this morn Had a nice nap, did I miss anything? I see the title is heavy rain now where? when? who?
  17. PlanetMaster

    Cool Down!

2 of these this upcoming Winter..Please
  18. Looks like something from a far off planet
  19. Not exactly the forecasted typhoon but light rain on and off, not enough to wet the pavement under the trees though. Good thing I sandbagged around the house yesterday.
  20. Just had a thundershower out of nowhere, good heavy downpour, of course there was a 0% chance of precip. today
  21. Unfortunately their sources are the same, the MWS (misinformation weather service) I have flashes and rumbles to me west, and north, western Nassau getting a strong storm That strong cell is just shy of me to the SE, getting wind and heavy rain now, thunder and lightning are frequent.
