December 13-15, 2018 | Potential Winter Storm

Staff Recommended Posts

Might as well go ahead and get this started. There are signs of a strong storm system to affect the area toward the end of next week as you can see on the GFS/GGEM/Euro images below. Certainly no lack of activity so far this season.

As funny as that was, gave me a good chuckle, there's actually ensemble support for this...

Could be a fun one to track!

As long as you share with us here in NW Indiana with this storm. The Nov 25-26 storm was a boatload of rain for us with a couple inches of snow on top of it and downed power lines all over creation. Besides, I just bought a new 2019 Subaru Forester, I need to put her to work on some snowy roads, so bring this storm on (just a little further south)!

Nice purchase. Oddly enough the last storm gave us 5-6" in a swath that was mostly 8-12". Small pocket in SE McHenry county with less totals. If the new system cuts over Indy is that far enough south. Perhaps that track is enough of a compromise?

What an insane storm on the 12z Euro. I fly out the afternoon on the 14th. Feels like I'm either going to miss out on something great, or my flight is going to be seriously delayed lol.

Now you don't see that every day. :200w2:

Heck, I’ll settle for one historic storm every 50-75 years.

Wonder if it's just a case of misdiagnosed precip type. Surface temps are slightly above freezing but correct me if i'm wrong but 500 and 850 temps both look cold enough for snow. Either way give me that track any day and twice on Sunday.

The 18z FV3 would be insane with colder temps. And I'd still be here for it.

Yep, the GFS would make me very sad.

Not much cold air to work with. I had a feeling we could get blanked for the month of December.

At least we have another one to track. Euro would be a beast if colder temps... although I'd prefer a gulf low over a NW flow storm bombing out.
