Winter 2018-2019 | Outlooks and Discussion

LOL..Trolling?… Ya, OK. Based on the Euro weeklies, long range forecast, one can easily see what's being forecasted. Above normal Temperatures at around mid-month. What facts do you present that winter will stay till the end of April in the Northeast? My evidence is attached.

When, not if, that western mean trough shifts east, look out, that is when all hell could break lose to end the season, and may last awhile through March. At that time we should be entering MJO PHASE 1 and 2 which are very favorable in these parts. 😎

True, big storms can come from the gulf, known as a Miller A type storm but, Big storms can also happen as Miller B's, those that don't form in the gulf and explode off the East Coast. What's missing is, and I stated earlier in this thread or another one, is a Mean Ridge just West of the Rockies, not in the eastern Pacific as it has been. This would cause the mean trough axis to be situated, say, over the Mississippi River. Then you would have LP taking a ride over that ridge, down and scoop up abundant moisture from the gulf and dump it all over the East coast. Add some downstream blocking and all would be in business.

Pictured here is almost the entire 0Z NAM 500 vort/wind animation. Watch it closely and you can see that every couple of days a small piece of energy breaks off out west and slide to the east. Depending on which jet this energy rides on determines where that energy will exit the coast. This event in this topic stays south, the next event catches a ride on the northern jet and exits NJ. Pretty fascinating if you loop it and watch at for several iterations.

Lol. Was just typing the same thing. Confluence is just aiming the system OTS. NO possible influence for a turn north and east.
